MTN Mobile Money Uganda, in partnership with the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA), has donated Ramadhan food hampers to women road sweepers and cleaners across Kampala as part of its ongoing “Ramadhan Kareem with MTN” campaign.

The handover ceremony was attended by leaders from both institutions, including Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago and KCCA Executive Director Hajjat Sharifah Buzeki, alongside representatives from MTN MoMo and other city officials.

The outreach follows a similar activity conducted on March 5, 2026, at Luzira Prison where MTN MoMo extended Ramadhan support to inmates in both the men’s and women’s wings through the donation of essential food hampers to support them during the fasting period.

At Luzira Prison, each wing received hampers containing foodstuffs and other cooking essentials to assist inmates observing the fast.

During the Kampala engagement with KCCA, hampers containing essential food items were distributed to women road workers who work daily to keep the capital clean.

Peter Ochen, the General Manager for Financial Operations at MTN MoMo, said the initiative reflects the company’s commitment to standing with communities during the sacred month of Ramadhan.

“Ramadhan Kareem with MTN is about more than connectivity or transactions; it is about standing with our communities during a sacred and reflective season. Through these alms handovers to Luzira Prison and our partnership with KCCA to support women road workers, we are demonstrating our commitment to celebrating and uplifting the Muslim community in practical and meaningful ways,” Ochen said.

He added that MTN MoMo continues to empower customers through its International Money Transfer services, enabling families to remain financially connected across borders during the Holy Month.

“During this Ramadhan season, customers who send or receive money via MTN MoMo International Money Transfer stand a chance to win a fully sponsored trip. In addition, we are rewarding our customers with weekly Ramadan shopping prizes throughout the fasting period, culminating in a grand Eid shopping winner at the end of Ramadhan. Through these life-changing rewards, we are strengthening global family connections while giving back to the communities we serve,” Ochen added.

KCCA Executive Director Hajjat Sharifah Buzeki commended MTN MoMo for supporting the women during the Holy Month when acts of charity and compassion are strongly encouraged.

She also called for deeper collaboration between MTN and the city authority to improve the livelihoods of Kampala residents.

Buzeki noted that such partnerships could include initiatives that help vendors access financing, expand their businesses, connect to markets, and benefit from broader economic opportunities in the city.

Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago welcomed the initiative, noting that its timing was particularly significant.

“MTN MoMo could not have done this at a better time, with International Women’s Day approaching. This gesture is very welcome and speaks to the importance of supporting the women who work hard every day to keep our city clean,” Lukwago said.

The joint initiative reflects a shared commitment between MTN MoMo and KCCA to ensure that the blessings of Ramadhan reach vulnerable and hardworking members of the community, particularly women whose daily efforts help keep the city running.

The “Ramadhan Kareem with MTN” campaign includes a range of activities throughout the Holy Month such as mosque activations, Iftar dinners, and alms-giving initiatives across the country.

MTN Uganda is also supporting customers with a seasonal bundle offer where those who purchase any voice or data bundle worth UGX 1,000 or more in a day receive 10 free MTN-to-MTN minutes valid from 12:00am to 5:00am the following day.

Through these efforts, MTN MoMo and MTN Uganda say they aim to reinforce their role not only as financial and connectivity service providers but also as community partners during Ramadhan.
